| 2 March 2008 | | My name is Solveig Jonsdottir and I am working on research with my supervisor Dr Gary Brown as a part of my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Royal Holloway, University of London (http://www.pc.rhul.ac.uk/web/postgrads/clindoct.htm).
We have developed a series of questionnaires aimed at unravelling what places certain people at greater risk for developing problems with anxiety. We also hope to better characterize the nature of anxiety problems. The set of measures to date has profited greatly from the input of individuals with anxiety problems. We hope to continue this collaborative relationship, and are currently seeking participants for an online survey furthering this line of research. The Royal Holloway University Research Ethics Committee has approved this study.
The entire study is being administered on the Internet, is anonymous and should take about 30-45 minutes. Those participating will be entered into a prize drawing of one £50 ($100) prize, two £25 ($50) prizes, and three £10 ($20) prizes.

| 22 February 2008 | | We are running a Comprehensive Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Group for sufferers of Social Anxiety Disorder.
The course will last for 16 weeks and is based on the "Overcoming Social Anxiety Step-by-Step" course by Dr Thomas A Richards. It is being held in the Twickenham on Tuesday evenings, starting at 6.30 pm on Tuesday 19th February.
There will be an initial assessment (preferably on a 1:1 basis) to ensure that the course is suitable for you and to discuss the course with you. Each course session will run from 6.30 - 8.30 pm and there will be a charge of £18 per session (concessions may be available).
The first part of each session will centre on the cognitive aspects with the second part covering behaviour therapy. It will be a "safe" environment as it is only open to people who suffer from S.A. and no one will be pressurised at all. Past attendees have all reported enjoying the course and to benefiting from measurable improvement.
The course is facilitated by Peter N Ralph, BSc (Honours) Psychology who specialises in Social Anxiety Disorder and who teaches Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Counselling Studies at Adult Education Centres. He has run a number of similar courses over the last five years.
A daytime course may also be arranged if there is sufficient demand
For further details please contact by email, text or phone, stating your preferred session (Tuesday or Friday).

| 18 August 2007 | | | Loughborough University and the Mental Health Foundation would like your help with research. The project is investigating how to manage and reduce sickness absence in large organisations with a view to strengthening occupational health policies and improving staff retention and satisfaction. The aim of the research is to identify management strategies that are effective in preventing and reducing depression in employees returning to work after long term sick leave. We are particularly interested in people that returned to work in the last two years following time off for cancer, heart disease, back pain, anxiety and/or depression.
Involvement in the project simply involves filling out a questionnaire. CLICK HERE to take part. |

| 17 March 2007 | | | SANE, www.sane.org.uk, the leading mental health charity, is pleased to announce the launch of a new email support service, which is fully funded by the Vodafone UK Foundation.
SANEmail aims to provide support and information to people affected by mental health issues and will run alongside SANEline, our national out of hours mental health helpline. The service is available for anyone at sanemail@sane.org.uk, but SANEmail is particularly aimed at young people affected by mental illness, who may feel more at ease using email than the telephone.
The new service provides another avenue by which people affected by mental illness can receive emotional support, as well as information on such matters as local and national mental health services, or treatments and therapies for dealing with panic attacks or overcoming depression.
(SA-UK still welcomes your emails via contact@social-anxiety.org.uk) |
