Setting up a new group Home
 HomeLocal groupsFind a group

The best advice we can give you about setting-up a new group is to go for it, there are loads of people out there looking for groups so you have no need to worry about not finding people.

There are many good ways to set up a group, all of them valid, so it is really a matter of personal choice for the organizer. However, there are a few steps we would definitely recommend, in no particular order:

1) Decide on a format. Should this be a self-help group or a social group? Or perhaps you want to set-up something different? This is a key step, so take your time to decide.

2) Decide on a venue. What type of venue? Pub? Cafe? A dedicated centre? Bearing in mind any costs, of course. For a social group, people are generally more comfortable meeting at a pub. For self-help group, a specialised centre is more apporopriate.

3) How often will you meet? Weekly, fortnightly, monthly?

4) What will you do at the meet? Will it be a simple talking session? Or perhaps you want to do something more advanced, including elements of therapeutic practice e.g. CBT or NLP?

5) Before deciding on a start date, post the details on the board to see if anyone is interested. Once a few people have responded (3 or 4 should be enough to begin with) you can decide on a start date.

6) Once the groundwork is laid down, let the SAUK team know of the details and we can post it on the site!
